On June 13, a 16-year-old girl from Ilchamus location in Baringo County was admitted to the Marigat Catholic Mission Health Centre Hospital with acute malaria and burns.
According to hospital records, the girl had been living with her 38-year-old uncle for over five years after the death of her parents.
However, on the night of June 15, the uncle allegedly defiled the girl in one of the hospital wards, claiming she was epileptic and needed close monitoring.
“A doctor who examined the girl in the morning raised alarm after observing discharge from the minor’s private parts,” said Mary Monari, the hospital's in-charge.
The hospital management reported the crime to Marigat Police Station on June 15, and the suspect was arrested.
The girl was discharged at the weekend and handed over to a child’s welfare unit on Monday.
Area police commander Benjollife Munuve stated that the suspect will be charged in a Kabarnet court on the next available date.
