On July 1, 2020, Chief Justice David Maraga responded to claims that he fathered the daughter of a woman who caused a stir at the Milimani Law Courts.

Through his lawyer Danstan Omari, Maraga stated that he does not know the woman, Mary Kwamboka Onyancha, and did not sire the alleged 6-year-old girl.

Omari dismissed the documents presented by the woman, including the child's birth certificate, as fake and not worthy of a response.

He noted that the woman had only presented the papers in court for assessment but did not file a child support case after being unable to pay the filing fee.

Omari stated, 'That birth certificate is generated, it is not a document to be relied on.'

He also warned that if the allegations were aimed at assassinating the Chief Justice's character, they would call on the DPP and relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

The woman, Mary Kwamboka Onyancha, claimed that she had been raising the child with Maraga until January 2020 when he stopped supporting her.

She alleged that Maraga had frustrated her attempts to file a child maintenance suit in court and had refused to honor summons from the Makadara children's department.

Onyancha claimed that she met Maraga in 2013 at a church function and got into a romantic relationship with him, resulting in the birth of his daughter in 2014.

She was seeking over Sh160,000 in child support payment from Maraga.
