Former President Mwai Kibaki's health has been the subject of speculation, with reports emerging that he was hospitalized at Nairobi Hospital's VIP wing for abdominal pain.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, Kibaki's private secretary Ngari Gituku confirmed that the 88-year-old had visited the hospital for a routine checkup, but was not admitted.

Gituku dismissed the reports as 'gross exaggeration, hollow and baseless', stating that it was 'normal and a routine thing for all of us to go to the hospital'.

He added that the claims of Kibaki's 10-day hospitalization were 'far-fetched' and 'completely hollow and far from the truth'.

Gituku's statement was made in response to a report by The Star on Monday, which claimed that Kibaki was under the care of a team of doctors at the hospital.

According to The Star, the medics were managing Kibaki's pain, which was allegedly caused by an infection.

However, Gituku maintained that the reports were 'too intrusive' and that Kibaki's health was a private matter.
