On the eve of the first anniversary of his death, Wambui Kamiru, the widow of the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, has revealed the final resting place of her husband. Collymore, who passed away on July 1st last year, was cremated in a private ceremony at the Hindu Shamshan Bhumi Cremation Centre in Kariokor, Nairobi, as per his wish.
According to Wambui, the family chose to spread Collymore's ashes in the Indian Ocean at Diani Beach in Kwale County, a place he described as his favourite in the whole world.
“Bob’s ashes were deposited into the sea in Diani. Diani was his favourite beach in the whole world, so we thought it best to put his ashes in the sea there,” said Wambui.
Collymore died at the age of 61 after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a type of cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow.
