On Tuesday, January 30, Kirinyaga Members of County Assembly (MCAs) made a bold move against Governor Anne Waiguru, just days after a Senate Committee cleared her of impeachment charges.
The MCAs approved a Ksh15.6 million allocation for Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri 's office, despite Waiguru's opposition. This move was seen as a show of defiance by the MCAs, who had previously promised to consider other options to oust Waiguru.
The Assembly also approved only Ksh1 million for the office of Kirinyaga County Secretary Joe Muriuki, despite Waiguru recommending an allocation of Ksh111 million.

According to Baragwi ward MCA David Mathenge, who is also the Chairman of the Budget Committee in the County Assembly, the changes were confirmed to reporters.
Senator Cleophas Malala, who led the 11-member select committee, advised the MCAs and the county government to engage each other in a consultative forum to restore their working relationship.
"What we will not accept is fake reports. Our Governor is very good at changing documents and coming up with lies," Assembly Majority Leader James Murango stated on Tuesday, June 23.
