On June 30, 2020, Spanish newspapers AS and Marca reported that Morocco right back Achraf Hakimi was set to join Inter Milan from Real Madrid for €50 million (approximately £45.71 million) after spending two years on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Hakimi, a product of Real Madrid's academy, had made 16 appearances for their first team in the 2017-18 season but his long-term prospects were limited by the consistency of Dani Carvajal and the signing of Spain international Alvaro Odriozola in 2018.
During his time at Borussia Dortmund, Hakimi made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists to help the team finish second in the Bundesliga.
On the day of his departure, Hakimi published a farewell letter on his Instagram account, stating, "The moment has come to bring a great period of my life to a close. After two marvellous years, I have to leave this club which has given me so many happy moments."
He was photographed arriving in Milan on June 30, 2020, for a medical and to finalize the transfer.
According to the report in AS, Hakimi is about to sign a five-year contract with Inter Milan.
