Kenyan athletes are facing uncertainty as they hope to compete in European Diamond League meetings, set to kick off in August.

The European Union has excluded Kenya from the 15 countries given the green light to visit European nations starting July 1.

According to Schengen News, only four African countries - Morocco, Algeria, Rwanda, and Tunisia - have been included in the 'safe list' along with countries like Australia, Canada, China, and others.

Kenyan athletes, including world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot and Commonwealth Games champion Elijah Manangoi, were set to participate in the Monaco Diamond League on August 14.

However, with the European Union's travel restrictions in place, it remains unclear if Kenyan athletes will be allowed to travel to the event.

Other Diamond League meetings scheduled to take place in European soil include Stockholm (Sweden) on August 23 and Brussels (Belgium) on September 4.

Already, the Paris Meeting and Prefontaine Classic have been cancelled due to the ongoing global health situation.

The 2020 Diamond League calendar remains provisional and subject to further changes.
