Former President Mwai Kibaki, who served as Kenya's third president from 2002 to 2013, has been hospitalized at the Nairobi Hospital since June 19th.

According to The Star, Kibaki, 88, was taken ill and complained of pain in his lower abdomen, prompting his admission to the hospital's VIP wing.

A team of doctors is managing the pain allegedly caused by an infection, with samples taken for testing in the lab and results indicating no cause for concern.

However, an official at Kibaki's office downplayed the situation, stating that the former president was taken to the hospital for a routine checkup and that there was nothing new to report.

It is worth noting that Kibaki has maintained a low profile since leaving office in 2013 and is rarely seen in public, except for a rare appearance in February this year when he was driven to parliament to view the body of the late President Daniel Arap Moi.

President Moi, 95, passed away on February 4th while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
