Published on June 30, 2020, a woman suspected of killing her four children in Naivasha had on several occasions borrowed money from her friends and neighbors, it has emerged.
According to a former classmate and friend of the suspect, she had approached her for financial support just days before the killing of the four children.
The friend, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the suspect had even requested funds from a WhatsApp group comprising her former classmates.
'I never knew she was in dire financial straits. Being a member of our organization, she had secured loans several times,' the friend said.
The suspect, who was a part-time tutor and scored a B+ in her high school exams, had been struggling financially before the coronavirus pandemic left her jobless.
Her brother, Jackson Kimotho, described her as an outgoing and sociable person who masked her moments of distress with a smile.
'She veiled her tribulations and perhaps was overwhelmed. Finally, she snapped,' he said.
The family has started burial arrangements for the slain children, with a WhatsApp group dubbed 'Angels Send Off' formed to coordinate the process.
The four children are expected to be laid to rest on Thursday at the family's home in Murungaru, Nyandarua County, after a post-mortem is conducted.
