Former Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom, 27, was stabbed and robbed in Liverpool's Toxteth area on Saturday, hours after playing in Derby's 2-1 win over Reading.
Wisdom, who now plays for Championship side Derby, was attacked as he got out of his car, leaving him with injuries that required hospitalization.
Derby County Football Club confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that Wisdom was the victim of an unprovoked assault and robbery.
"He sustained injuries which resulted in him being admitted to hospital, where he is in a stable condition," the statement read.
