June 30, 2020 - UEFA has reaffirmed its commitment to staging the Champions League final eight in Lisbon, Portugal, despite concerns over the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
UEFA spokespersons have stated that there is 'no reason to prepare a Plan B' for the tournament, which is set to take place in Lisbon from August 12 to 23.
European football's governing body is in constant contact with the Portuguese Football Federation and local authorities to monitor the situation and adapt to any changes.
Earlier this month, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin expressed optimism about the tournament's prospects, saying 'things look well' and that they would 'hope everything will be fine until we organise the final eight.'
However, Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa has announced the reintroduction of some coronavirus restrictions in and around Lisbon to help control fresh outbreaks.
From Wednesday, 19 neighbourhoods on the northern edges of Lisbon will go back into lockdown, with gatherings limited to a maximum of five people in these areas.
The Champions League final eight is set to feature Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, and Atalanta, among others, with matches to be played at Benfica's Estadio da Luz and the nearby Estadio Jose Alvalade.
