Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set a high bar for his attacking trio, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on course to become the first pair of players to hit 20 goals in a season since Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez in 2010/11.
With 19 goals each, Martial and Rashford are leading the charge, but Solskjaer believes they can still improve. 'I think all three that we have talked about have had a good development this season — but they can be so much better,' he said ahead of United's Premier League match at Brighton on Tuesday.
While Martial and Rashford have been in impressive form, Solskjaer is not satisfied with their current level. 'All three, I’m still waiting to see them blossom because there’s parts of their game that they still need to improve on,' he added.
Odion Ighalo's arrival on loan in January has added to the attacking options, but Solskjaer is clear that he wants his strikers to make decisions for the team and the club. 'If you think you’ve got a divine right to be playing every game and doing so well that we’re not going to look for players to replace you, you’re in the wrong place,' he said.
With United sixth in the Premier League table, five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, Solskjaer knows that they need to improve to reach their goals. 'We’re too far away from where we need to be and want to be,' he said.
