Fast-Tracking Justice for DJ Evolve

June 30, 2020

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has asked the Judiciary to expedite the hearing of the case involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who is accused of shooting DJ Evolve.

The request comes after a public outcry over the slow pace of justice in the case, which has left the victim, Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve, in a pitiable state six months after the incident.

According to reports, DJ Evolve was bedridden, struggled with his speech, and could not move his limbs, sparking widespread criticism of the judicial system for neglecting the entertainer's quest for justice.

The incident occurred on January 16, 2020, at Billionaire's club (B-club) located along Galana Road in Nairobi's Kilimani estate, where Babu Owino allegedly pulled the trigger on DJ Evolve after a dispute ensued between them.

A Nairobi court later granted Babu Owino a KSh 10 million bail, which was to be paid in instalments of KSh 2.5 million for a period of four months, with the amount set to service the medical bills of the victim.

However, DJ Evolve's family had opposed the release of Babu on bail, raising fear that the accused was an influential person and could use his position to harm the recuperating man or his family.

"Due to public interest, the Office of the DPP has asked the Judiciary to fast track the date of allocation for the hearing of the case of the shooting of DJ Evolve by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino," NTV reported.
