Safaricom has announced the appointment of Ilanna Darcy as its new Chief Finance Officer (CFO) in an interim capacity, effective July 1st, 2020. Darcy has been working at Safaricom since 2017 as the head of investor relations, financial planning, and analysis.
As CFO, Darcy will be responsible for the overall financial planning, management, and oversight of the organization. She brings over 20 years of experience in finance, with 13 years at the senior level, and has worked across three continents in retail, FMCG, and telecommunication sectors.
Before joining Safaricom, Darcy worked for Digicel Group in South East Asia as the Chief Financial Officer, in Vanuatu, and before that as the Group Finance Manager, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. She has also held positions such as Contract Finance Manager for Unilever Ireland and Financial Controller for Bird Eye in Ireland.
During her stint as the Head of Investor Relations at Safaricom, Darcy oversaw several milestones, including the strengthening of the firm's position as a stock of choice, with the share price growing from Ksh18.57 to Ksh28.90. She also helped deliver the Hyperion Project, which saw Safaricom move from manual to system-generated reporting, leading to greater efficiencies.
Darcy holds a Bachelor of International Commerce with Italian from the University College Dublin and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
