Chief Justice David Maraga is at the center of a controversy after a woman accused him of being a deadbeat dad to their 6-year-old daughter.
Mary Kwamboka Onyancha, the woman in question, claimed she met Chief Justice Maraga in 2013 during a church function and they started a romantic relationship.
According to Onyancha, the relationship led to a pregnancy, and she gave birth to a girl in April 2014. However, she alleged that Chief Justice Maraga has been unsupportive and has refused to take responsibility for the child's upbringing.
Onyancha claimed that she has been filing cases against Chief Justice Maraga, but he has refused to honor his responsibilities as a father. She also alleged that he was summoned by the children's department but failed to appear.
Speaking outside the Milimani law Courts in Nairobi, Onyancha said she wants Chief Justice Maraga to take responsibility for the child's upkeep, including providing KSh 160,000 monthly for food, clothing, and other expenses.
She also produced a birth certificate to prove the child's birth date, which is April 21, 2014, at Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
Chief Justice Maraga has not commented on the allegations, and it is unclear whether he will respond to the claims.
