On Tuesday, May 30, a dramatic scene unfolded at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi as a woman accused Chief Justice David Maraga of being a deadbeat dad.

According to the woman, Mary Kwamboka Onyancha, she met Chief Justice Maraga in 2013 at a church function and they started a relationship. They share a six-year-old daughter, but the CJ has refused to support them since January this year.

Onyancha claimed that she went to the Makadara children's department and filed a case against the CJ, but he refused to honor the summons.

"I met with Maraga and we had an affair. We have been friends since 2013 and now I have a six-year-old daughter…I have everything, I have been filing cases every now and then. …..He was even summoned by the Children’s Department and he refused to honour that one," she said.

Onyancha's allegations have sparked a heated debate, with many questioning the CJ's actions.
