On June 30, 2020, a woman from Kenya took to social media to share her heartbreaking story of seeking justice for her underage daughter who was allegedly defiled by people known to her.
The incident occurred at the woman's late grandmother's house in Karen, where her daughter reported the rape to her aunt. However, the aunt physically assaulted the minor, forcing her to seek refuge in the servants' quarters.
According to the woman, the aunt later sent an uncle to pick the minor from Karen and take her back to the mother. When the girl arrived home, she narrated her ordeal to her mother, who decided to report the matter at Athi River Police Station.
However, the officers at Athi River Police station referred her to Karen Police Station, citing jurisdiction. The matter was reported under OB number 41/27/5/2020 at Karen Police Station, and the woman filled a P3 form and took a medical report from Nairobi Women's Hospital, Kitengela.
Despite her efforts, the suspects remain free, and the woman is still waiting for justice. She has written to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution seeking advice, but has yet to receive a response.
Lang'ata police boss Gregory Mutiso has assured the public that the police are investigating the matter, stating, "There is more than it just meets the eye, and the truth will soon be out as the police are following the matter up. That is all I can say now, but we are investigating the matter."
