On June 30, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, as a woman named Mary Kwamboka Onyancha publicly accused Chief Justice David Maraga of being a deadbeat dad.
According to Onyancha, she met Maraga in 2013 at a church function and they share a six-year-old daughter. However, she claimed that Maraga has not been taking responsibility for their child's upbringing.
Onyancha produced court documents and demanded that Maraga 'man up' and provide financial support for their daughter's care.
"I met with Maraga and we had an affair. We have been friends since 2013 and now I have a six-year-old daughter…I have everything, I have been filing cases every now and then. …..He was even summoned by the Children’s Department and he refused to honour that one," she said.
Netizens have been trying to piece together the story, but many believe it was staged.
