Teenage Girl Detained Over 60-Year-Old Woman's Murder in Seme

On June 29, 2020, a tragic incident occurred in Konywera village, East Reru sub-location of West Seme location, where a 60-year-old woman was killed in a dispute over grazing land.

A 14-year-old girl, a Standard Seven pupil at Gumo Primary School, has been detained by police in Seme over the murder of the elderly woman.

According to Seme Sub County OCPD Hellen Rotich, the trouble began when the woman threatened to punish the girl for grazing at Victoria Olwasi's compound despite her protest.

The girl allegedly picked a stone and hit the elderly woman on the ribs, causing her to fall down and collapse.

Olwasi was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Rotich stated that Olwasi's body was later moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) morgue awaiting autopsy.

The incident was reported to the police station by the woman's grandchildren.
