On June 30, 2020, High Court judge Ngenye Macharia made a significant ruling in the case of rugby stars Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama, who were accused of raping a woman at her residence in Nairobi's Highrise Estate.

The two rugby players had been sentenced to 15 years in jail last year by Magistrate Martha Mutuku after they were found guilty of the crime.

However, during the appeal process, it emerged that one of the witnesses had not been sworn in before giving evidence, which led to the High Court judge quashing the original sentence and ordering a retrial.

Olaba and Wanyama, who were part of the Kenya Harlequins team, have consistently denied committing the offense and maintained their innocence.

They are now set to take plea before a Magistrate's Court on July 7, 2020.
