On June 25, 2020, the African Development Bank (AfDB) achieved a significant milestone in its commitment to transparency, ranking fourth out of 47 global development institutions on Publish What You Fund's Global Transparency Index.

The Index, which covers the 2019 year, assesses organizations' transparency based on several criteria, including finance and budgets, basic information data, organizational planning, and performance. The AfDB scored 95.5 out of 100 on transparency, a significant improvement in its score from 2018.

According to the Index, the AfDB has been placed in the highest category of transparency, alongside world-class institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and UNDP.

Separately, the S&P Global Ratings agency has affirmed its 'AAA/A-1+' long- and short-term issuer credit assessment of the AfDB with a stable outlook. The agency positively assessed the AfDB's strong funding, very strong capital adequacy, extraordinary shareholder support, and adequacy of its governance and management.

The AfDB's $115 billion capital increase, approved by shareholders in October 2019, and its replenishment to its concessional window, the African Development Fund, in December 2019, were also noted by S&P Global as positive factors.
