On June 30, 2020, the High Court ordered the retrial of rugby players Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama, who are serving 15 years in prison for raping Wendy Kemunto in 2018.
The two men, then 22 and 23 years old, were found guilty of gang rape at Seefar apartments in Nairobi's Highrise estate on February 2018, the victim's birthday.
At the time of the crime and sentencing, both Olaba and Wanyama were students at Strathmore University, with one of them having secured a scholarship at a Canadian University and the other a contract with a rugby club in Helsinki, Finland.
