On June 30, 2020, Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio visited the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) in Nairobi's Industrial Area to pledge his support for the agency.
Mr. Poghisio described Kemsa as the nerve centre for Covid-19 supplies and emphasized the need to review laws to enhance its performance. He committed to working with the agency to identify legislation that would support Kemsa in discharging its duties more efficiently.
Kemsa CEO Jonah Manjari welcomed the Senate Majority Leader's support and highlighted the Miscellaneous Amendment Bills as a critical area where Kemsa needs the Senate's help. He also sought assistance in addressing county debts, which have put pressure on the agency's revolving fund and undermined its ability to expand its product portfolio.
Mr. Poghisio reiterated the government's commitment to improving health in the counties, and Kemsa's role in achieving this goal.
