On June 28, 2015, Ivar Makari Kituyi tragically passed away at the age of 30 due to a diabetic attack. His father, Mukhisa Kituyi, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, is still mourning his loss.
Dr. Mukhisa took to his Twitter account to express his grief and gratitude for the two grandsons Ivar left behind. He wrote:
‘Five years ago today you slipped out of our grasp dear Ivar Makari. As we learn to live with the pain and loss. I’m ever grateful to God that you left me these beautiful grandsons; Brendan Walyaula and Mikal Mukhisa.’
Dr. Mukhisa's message was met with condolences from his followers, who expressed their sympathy and offered words of encouragement.
