On June 30, 2020, Migori Youth FC, a National Super League side, made a heartwarming gesture by donating relief food to the sick in their community.
The initiative, led by goalkeeper Gedion Ogweno, saw the club partner with Bansi Wholesalers Limited and other well-wishers to support less fortunate households.
According to Migori Youth chairman Abdi Azizi, the club aimed to reach out to as many families as possible and provide them with the necessary support.
"Earlier today, we donated food to about 50 less fortunate households with 100 people," Azizi said.
The club's efforts were motivated by the support they received from their fans, who cheered them on during their games, especially during their battle for promotion to the Kenyan Premier League.
"They support us when we are playing especially this season when we were battling for promotion to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL)," Azizi said.
He called on other corporate bodies to come out and support the vulnerable, urging other clubs to emulate their example.
"We understand the plight of our players but we also have to consider our fans. They cheer us in every game. So helping them will only increase their love and support for our clubs," Azizi said.
Migori goalkeeper Ogweno expressed his happiness in giving foodstuff to the needy, saying it would motivate them.
"They are the reason we play for the team. Our fans are always with us and to share the little I have with them makes me proud," Ogweno said.
The club plans to continue providing relief food every month if they have enough funds.
