On June 29, 2020, Iran's judiciary issued arrest warrants against 36 US officials, including President Donald Trump, for their alleged involvement in the January 3 drone strike that killed top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.

Tehran prosecutor Ali Qasi Mehr stated that the 36 US officials have been investigated and ordered to be arrested through Interpol, with Trump being at the top of the list.

"These people have been charged with murder and terrorist acts," Mehr said.

However, Interpol has stated that it would not intervene in the matter, citing its constitution that prohibits political or military intervention.

US officials have dismissed the Iranian request as a 'propaganda stunt', with Brian Hook calling it a 'political nature' that Interpol would not intervene in.
