Kenya has recorded 120 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases to 6,190. The new cases were identified from a total of 2,221 samples tested in the last 24 hours, with all but five of the new cases being Kenyan nationals.

According to the Ministry of Health, 84 of the new cases are male, while 36 are female. The youngest person to contract the virus is six years old, while the oldest is 83 years old.

Despite the rise in cases, 42 Kenyans have recovered and been discharged from hospital. However, the Ministry of Health has expressed condolences to the family of a patient who lost their life to the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 144.

Nairobi remains the hardest hit region, with 67 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours and a total of 3,031 cases. Mombasa follows closely with 1,445 cases, while Busia has recorded 407 cases, making it the third-highest county with Covid-19 infections.

Dr. Rashid Aman, the Health CAS, has expressed optimism in the containment and response to the pandemic, citing lessons learned from past disease outbreaks. He has called on Kenyans to continue adhering to health measures advised by the Ministry of Health.

As counties rush to meet the July 7 deadline to establish 300-bed isolation centers, Dr. Aman has urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and adhere to containment measures to prevent widespread infections.
