On Monday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a man described as a notorious fraudster operating in the Coast region.
The suspect, Fahmi Salim, 34, was arrested in connection with multiple cases of individuals being swindled of over Sh11 million.
According to a statement by the DCI on its official Twitter account, the suspect was apprehended from his hideout in Nyali.
“Following numerous complaints by members of the public of being defrauded money and property, detectives based at Mombasa commenced investigations and arrested a notorious fraudster namely Fahmi Salim Said at his hideout at Beach Road apartment in Nyali,” the DCI stated.
During the arrest, the officers recovered two mobile phones from the suspect, which they believe were used for criminal activities.
Several individuals have filed complaints at various police stations in Mombasa, alleging that they were defrauded by the suspect.
Some of the reported cases include Fahima Ali, who lost Sh5.5 million, Waheed Ishmail, who lost Sh4.5 million, and Nabil Salim, who lost Sh690,000.
Additionally, Ismail Abdulkadiz reported losing Sh420,000, and Juma Rashid reported losing Sh120,000.
It is reported that three more victims have yet to file their complaints with the police.
