KDF Soldier's Tragic Drowning with Sons in Makongeni Quarry

Published on June 29, 2020

A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Makongeni, Thika, when a mother lost her husband and two sons in a quarry drowning incident. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the husband, a KDF soldier, attempted to rescue his two sons, aged 7 and 11.

According to eyewitnesses, the soldier, Mr. Kobia, was part of a group of engineers based at Thika Barracks. He rushed to the scene after being informed of his sons' predicament and jumped into the water to rescue them.

However, in a tragic turn of events, Mr. Kobia failed to rescue his sons and instead called for help himself, as per the police report.

The three bodies were recovered three days later and taken to the Defense Forces Memorial Hospital Mortuary in Nairobi for post-mortem examination.
