On January 3, 2020, a US drone strike killed Qasem Soleimani, a top Iranian Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) commander, at Baghdad International Airport.

Iran and its allies condemned the strike, calling it an assassination that raised the specter of further regional destabilization.

Now, Iran has taken further action, issuing an arrest warrant for 36 individuals, including US President Donald Trump, over Soleimani's death.

According to Tehran's attorney general, Ali Alqasi Mehr, Trump would be prosecuted as soon as he steps out of power and his term ends.

Iran has also requested Interpol to issue a Red Notice for the 36 people, but it is uncertain whether Interpol will grant the request.

“The president and those who ordered the murder of General Soleimani will be prosecuted as soon as they leave power,” Alqasi Mehr said.
