On June 29, 2020, Frankfurt Airport opened a walk-in testing centre to reassure anxious travellers as the summer holidays began.
Passengers can pay for a coronavirus test and receive their results within hours, with the option to connect the information to a boarding pass for countries requiring a negative test.
German biotech company Centogene, which launched the project with Lufthansa and Fraport, stated that the centre will help avoid quarantines and serve as a blueprint for opening international borders.
The standard test costs 59 euros, with results expected within six to eight hours, while a fast-track test for 139 euros will provide an answer in two to three hours.
The walk-in hub can handle 300 tests per hour and is expected to be offered until at least July 2021.
As international air travel picks up, the centre aims to provide reassurance to passengers, particularly with the easing of coronavirus restrictions and the reopening of European Union borders.
