On June 29, 2020, Kenya's Ministry of Health reported a significant increase in COVID-19 recoveries, with 42 patients discharged from various hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,013.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman, the high number of recoveries is attributed to the hard work of health workers.

However, the country also recorded one more fatality, raising the total number of COVID-19-related deaths to 144.

On the same day, the Ministry of Health confirmed 120 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 6,190 since the first case was reported in March.

The new cases included an 86-year-old and a 6-year-old, who were confirmed from 2,221 samples tested since Sunday.

Of the new cases, 67 were recorded in the capital city of Nairobi.

Dr. Aman noted that all the cases, except five, were Kenyan citizens.

Kenya has implemented tough restriction measures, including a night curfew and cessation of movement to and from Nairobi, Mandera, and Mombasa, where higher infections were recorded since February.

The restrictions are set to expire on July 6, when President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to announce new measures.
