On June 29, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded at the Kitui County Assembly, where Governor Charity Ngilu's lawyers were forcibly removed from the premises.
According to a video that has surfaced online, the security team dragged Martin Oloo and Morris Kimuli, Ngilu's lawyers, out of the assembly.
The lawyers claimed they had been summoned to represent the Governor, who had obtained a court order temporarily blocking the county assembly members from debating her impeachment on June 25, 2020, at the Milimani High Court.
As a result, the assembly members abandoned the impeachment debate scheduled for June 29, 2020, and instead tabled the 2020-2021 budget in the afternoon.
The Kitui County Assembly Members had called for Ngilu's impeachment on grounds of violating the County Government Act, conflict of interest, and abuse of office.
