On June 29, 2020, Kenya's Ministry of Health announced that 120 more people had tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the country's total number of confirmed cases to 6,190.
The new cases were confirmed after the Ministry tested 2,221 samples.
According to Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman, all but five of the new patients are Kenyans, with the majority of cases reported in Nairobi, which had 67 cases.
Mombasa County followed with 17 cases, while Machakos recorded nine.
Dr. Aman also announced the recovery of 42 more patients, raising the total number of recoveries to 2,013.
Unfortunately, the death toll had risen to 144 as one more patient had died.
Dr. Aman added that local scientists, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri), are conducting research on the disease, focusing on local characterisation, interventions, and their levels of success.
