On June 29, 2020, Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku to face charges of ethnic contempt.

He denied the charges and applied to challenge the charge sheet, but the court dismissed his application, citing lack of merit.

Magistrate Mutuku noted that the issues raised by the Senator could be dealt with during the main hearing of the case.

She also stated that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is independent and cannot be directed on who to charge or not to charge.

As a result, the court ordered Senator Ledama's release on a cash bail of Ksh. 100,000 and prohibited him from commenting on the case until it is heard and determined.

The case is set to be mentioned on July 30 for further direction.
