On June 26, 2020, a horrific incident occurred in Naivasha, where a 42-year-old woman, Beatrice Mwende Kimothoi, allegedly killed her four children.

According to reports, Mwende, a mathematics teacher, claimed that she was possessed by evil spirits on the 26th of every month, which she was not in control of.

She further alleged that her former boyfriend, whom she parted ways with last year, had been ordering her to do 'queer' things.

During a court hearing, Mwende narrated how she killed her children, Melody Warigia (8yrs), Willy Macharia (6yrs), Samantha Njeri (4yrs), and Whitney Nyambura (2yrs), one after the other on Friday night before going to bed.

She begged the court for mercy, insisting that she had been possessed and did not know what she was doing.

Police are seeking to hold Mwende for seven more days to conduct a mental assessment before charging her with murder.

The case will be heard on July 6, 2020.
