On June 29, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded at the Kitui county offices when lawyers representing Governor Charity Ngilu were forcefully kicked out of the assembly premises.
The lawyers, led by Morris Kimuli and Martin Oloo, had been summoned to represent Governor Ngilu, who had been summoned to appear before the county assembly just days after the High Court suspended her impeachment temporarily.
According to reports, the lawyers were locked out of the premises in a manner they described as illegal and barbaric, prompting Morris Kimuli to say, 'You cannot lock us out of a public office, huku si kwa mamayako ama babayako, tell the speaker to give us as letter of cancellation, you invited us, no one is getting into this office if you do not allow us in.'
Despite their efforts to gain entry, the lawyers were met with resistance from the Sergeant-At-Arms, who forcefully ejected them from the premises and threw them out of the gates.
Intimate sources revealed that Morris Kimuli sustained injuries during the ugly scene and sought treatment at the Kitui County Referral Hospital, while his counterparts recorded a statement at the Kitui police station.
Police officers from the Kitui central police station eventually restored peace in the premises.
