Kenya has recorded a significant increase in coronavirus cases, with 120 new cases reported on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 6,190 since March 13.
The Health Ministry announced that 2,221 samples were tested, with all but five of the new patients being Kenyans.
According to Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman, the youngest case is six years old, while the oldest is 83 years old.
The new cases were reported in various counties, with Nairobi leading the way with 67 cases, followed by Mombasa with 17 cases, and Machakos and Kajiado with nine cases each.
Dr. Aman also announced the recovery of 42 more patients, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,013, and the death toll had risen to 144 as one more patient had died.
As of June 29, 2020, the global number of Covid-19 cases had reached at least 9,962,193, with over 498,723 deaths reported worldwide.
Dr. Aman emphasized that it is only a matter of time before all counties record a case, and that the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) are conducting research to better understand the pandemic and its spread in Kenya.
