The 2020 BET Awards celebrated its 20th anniversary on June 28th, focusing on black lives and culture in the wake of George Floyd's death.

Through the #BlackLivesMatter campaign, protests demanding justice for people of colour were witnessed around the world.

Beyoncé's BeyGood initiative has established several scholarships and philanthropic foundations, earning her the prestigious Humanitarian Award at the BET Awards.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama presented the award to Beyoncé, praising her generosity of spirit and love for her community.

"Ever since she was a little girl in Houston, Beyoncé Knowles Carter has been lighting up the stages and gracing the world with her talent with her generosity of spirit, and with her love for her community," said Michelle Obama.

Beyoncé dedicated the award to her brothers and sisters fighting for change, saying, "Your voices are being heard, and you are proving to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain."

Other highlights included a performance by 12-year-old singer Keedron Bryant, who delivered an electrifying performance on his viral hit 'I just wanna live.'
