On June 29, 2020, Iran issued an arrest warrant for US President Donald Trump in connection with the killing of its top general, Qassem Soleimani, in a drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

According to Iranian prosecutor Ali Alqasimeh, Trump, along with over 30 others, faces 'murder and terrorism charges' for their alleged involvement in the attack.

However, the prosecutor emphasized that Iran will pursue Trump's prosecution even after his presidency ends.

Iran has also sought the help of Interpol in detaining Trump, who authorized the drone strike that killed General Soleimani.
