On June 29, 2020, Starehe MP Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, was arrested at the Nairobi Area Police Station.
The MP's arrest came several hours after Nairobi Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega warned politicians against inciting traders on the allocation of market spaces.
According to Njega, a special committee led by the Nairobi County Commissioner Flora Mworia has been set up to oversee the legal and procedural allocation of market spaces to genuine traders.
Speaking to the press, Njega stated, "There have been some people going around collecting money purporting to allocate traders market stalls. On Friday, last week we had a confrontation between some members of the public and police at Mwariro market which is located in Starehe Constituency that is led by the MP."
He added that police are investigating the case together with several other incidents in which politicians have continued to incite traders.
"I'm currently at Nairobi Area. The charges against me are unclear though they seem connected to Mwariro market," Jaguar said on his Twitter handle.
The first-time MP vowed to continue fighting against what he claims is unfair allocation of stalls in the newly-built market.
