On June 29, 2020, former Nyanza NEC member Tom Alila declared his intention to run for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Presidency.

Alila, who served as a NEC member in Nyanza in 2013 under Sam Nyamweya, emphasized the need for grassroots football and proper youth structure in his campaign.

He believes that with goodwill from the government, he can transform the game and help Kenya secure a spot in the World Cup.

Alila commended the current FKF regime for its progress but urged President Nick Mwendwa to convene a stakeholders meeting before the elections, where all sub-branch teams can have a say.

He will face stiff competition from Habert Mwachiro, Sammy Sholei, Nicholas Musonye, Steven Mburu, Sam Nyamweya, and incumbent Nick Mwendwa in the polls.
