Naivasha Mother's Tragic Act Leaves Community in Shock

On Saturday, June 27th, 2020, a devastating incident occurred in Naivasha, where a 42-year-old woman took the lives of her four children, leaving behind a chilling confession note addressed to her eldest son.

The victims, identified as Melody Warigia (8), Willy Macharia (6), Samantha Njeri (4), and Whitney Nyambura (2), were all students at Milimani primary school in Naivasha. The woman, who had previously been married and had three children from that union, had remarried in Naivasha and had four children with her new partner.

According to police reports, the woman had been struggling financially, having been laid off from her job at an NGO in Naivasha two months prior due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This had left her extremely depressed, and she could no longer afford to feed her children.

Neighbours reported that the woman had posted concerning comments on the family WhatsApp group, which prompted her relatives to visit her. However, they found that she had already committed the heinous act and had left behind a two-page confession note.

In the note, the woman expressed her love for her children and apologised for her actions, stating that she had murdered them to cut off the generation link from their family. She also advised her eldest son, Alex, to take care of his siblings and to finish his education, seeking guidance from God through prayer.

The woman further warned Alex against entering into any dealings with her former boyfriend, whom she described as an evil man. She also informed Alex that his biological father was alive and well, providing his current location and address.

Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed that officers recovered the confession note from the crime scene. The woman is expected to appear in court today to face murder charges.

As the community struggles to come to terms with this unimaginable act, relatives of the woman have expressed concerns about her mental health, suggesting that she may have been struggling with depression.
