Former President Mwai Kibaki, who served as Kenya's third President between 2002 and 2013, has been hospitalized at Nairobi Hospital since June 19. He is undergoing treatment for a severe infection that has caused him severe pain in the lower abdomen.

According to sources, Kibaki's team of doctors is managing his pain, and the results of his lab tests are out, showing nothing to worry about.

However, just a few days ago, a source in the office of the former president claimed that Kibaki was in the hospital for a routine medical check-up and was doing well.

On Sunday, one of his aides told The Star that Kibaki's visit to the hospital was a normal one and that there was nothing new to report. The aide explained that Kibaki goes to the hospital regularly for scheduled check-ups, which is why there was no cause for alarm.

It's worth noting that Kibaki has maintained a low profile since exiting office in 2013 and was last seen in public in February at Parliament Buildings where the body of ex-President Daniel Moi lay in state.
