On June 29, 2020, the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Kenya confirmed that seven staff members, including nurses and doctors, had been put under quarantine after coming into contact with a COVID-19 patient.

The patient, an 18-year-old college student from the Langas estate, was diagnosed with Coronavirus during routine testing a day before he was scheduled to undergo surgery.

According to Dr. Wilson Aruasa, the MTRH CEO, the hospital staff would be tested after 14 days to ascertain their status. He assured the public that there was no cause for alarm, as the hospital was attending to its clients as usual.

Dr. Aruasa emphasized that the hospital had taken all necessary precautions to ensure the health safety of its clients, and that the medical staff were well trained and prepared in case of any eventuality.

He also dismissed reports of panic at the hospital, stating that work was proceeding as usual in all wings of the facility.

Dr. Aruasa noted that 90 of Kenyans who had tested positive for Coronavirus exhibited mild symptoms, and that the Covid-19 pandemic was now within the communities.

He urged people not to shy away from seeking medical services from health facilities, assuring that nobody would be denied services just because they had been found to be positive with the virus.
