From Humble Beginnings to Success

Kevin Otiende, the Managing Director of Calla Public Relations, has come a long way from his childhood in Buru Buru Estate, Nairobi. Born as the last of ten children, Kevin's family faced numerous challenges, including losing their home due to a mortgage default. Despite these hardships, Kevin's family instilled in him the importance of hard work and determination.

Kevin's journey began with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi. He started his career as an online writer at Capital FM and later interned at CCTV Africa, where he gradually rose through the ranks.

However, Kevin soon realized that journalism was too linear for him, and he made the decision to shift to Public Relations, a field that offered endless possibilities. He joined PMS Group as Head of PR and worked on several high-profile campaigns that impacted millions of Kenyans.

Kevin's experience in PR not only broadened his horizons but also taught him the art of communication. He eventually left PMS to establish his own organization, Calla PR, which he now leads as Managing Director.

What Drives Kevin

Kevin's drive for growth is fueled by his desire to identify gaps, see the unseen, and find solutions. He believes that everything that succeeds is premised on solving a problem and making life better. In business, Kevin emphasizes the importance of continuous learning, research, and intelligence.

Kevin's principles are built on professionalism, delivery, and a strong relationship with God. He is inspired by his daughter and cherishes the conversations they have, which shape his plans. He also values his network of senior leaders and the importance of personal relationships in business.

Kevin's advice to the youth is to consult, learn from others, and start early. He emphasizes the need to break free from the hand-out culture and instead learn to earn an income through hard work.
