On June 29, 2020, a devastating fire engulfed the offices of the Amani National Congress (ANC) party in Kakamega, Kenya, leaving important documents destroyed.

The incident occurred just days after Senator Cleophas Malala was expelled from the party on June 26, 2020, following a disciplinary hearing.

According to sources, the fire was reported to have started in the early morning hours of June 29, 2020.

Senator Malala has been at odds with his party leader, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, since his election in 2017, often dissenting from the party's ways.

Malala's expulsion was reportedly due to his utterances during an ODM Party rally held during the Kibra by-election campaigns last year.

However, Malala has denied the allegations, stating that his removal was due to his role in declaring Hon. Oparanya, Hon. Lusaka, Hon. Eugène Wamalwa, and Hon. Francis Atwoli as the Luhya leaders charged with steering the development agenda of their people during a meeting in Kajiado in May.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
