On June 29, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded at the Kitui County Assembly when lawyers representing Governor Ngilu were forcibly removed from the premises.
The incident occurred just days after the High Court temporarily suspended Governor Ngilu's impeachment, which had been moved by Athi Ward Representative Peter Kilonzo.
According to reports, the lawyers, led by Morris Kimuli and Martin Oloo, had gone to the assembly to represent Governor Ngilu, who had been summoned by the MCAs.
However, the lawyers were locked out of the premises, with Morris Kimuli terming the move 'illegal and barbaric.'
'You cannot lock us out of a public office, huku si kwa mamayako ama babayako, tell the speaker to give us a letter of cancellation, you invited us, no one is getting into this office if you do not allow us in,' Kimuli said.
Despite the confrontation, calm was eventually restored at the premises after police officers were deployed to man the assembly's gates.
The incident comes just days after the lawyers made an application challenging the tabling and debating of the impeachment motion.
