Wambui Collymore, the widow of late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, has shared a poignant moment in her life since his passing. In an interview with Daily Nation, she revealed that her late husband's ashes were spread into the sea in Diani, Kwale county, a place he loved and considered his favorite.
According to Wambui, Bob's love for the beach and ocean was unmatched, and it was only fitting that his ashes were dispersed in the Indian Ocean during an intimate ceremony.
She explained that the family and friends of Bob, who passed away on July 1, 2019, at the age of 61, could now feel his presence whenever they were near a sea, as his ashes were spread in a place he cherished.
Wambui fondly remembered her late husband as a man of principles who was kind, funny, and charming. She also shared that he never reached out for his phone in the morning and urged people to be like him and exercise every day to build a body they wanted to live in.
Wambui has spent the past year thinking about the good times with Bob, a man who loved art and music, hated corruption, and tried to maintain a healthy work-life balance. She praised his honesty, saying it was a quality that made him stand out and earned him the respect of those around him.
Bob's battle with cancer was well-documented, and Wambui shared that he had beaten the disease twice before his third wave took every ounce of strength left in him. He was flown to the UK for treatment in 2017 and returned in June 2018, but his condition worsened before his passing.
