On June 28, 2015, Mukhisa Kituyi's world was shattered when his 30-year-old son Ivar Makari passed away due to a diabetic attack.

Five years later, the Secretary-General of UNCTAD is still grappling with the pain of losing his firstborn child. In a heartfelt message on Twitter, Mukhisa expressed his gratitude for the two grandsons Ivar left behind, Brendan Walyaula and Mikal Mukhisa.

"Five years ago today you slipped out of our grasp dear Ivar Makari. As we learn to live with the pain and loss. I'm ever grateful to God that you left me these beautiful grandsons; Brendan Walyaula and Mikal Mukhisa," Mukhisa tweeted.

Ivar was laid to rest at his father's home in Mbakalo Tongaren Constituency. The news of his passing was met with an outpouring of condolences from Mukhisa's followers, who offered words of comfort and support.
